Sardinia is one of the most underrated islands I have ever been to. It’s still pretty undiscovered, so now is the time to go!

Why you should visit Sardinia:

Sardinia, Italy is 100% worth your time and money. Sardinia is the perfect destination to book at the end of your Italy vacation so you can relax, enjoy less crowds, and see beautiful coastlines.

WHERE IS SARDINIA?

Sardinia is a 1 hour flight from Rome, Italy. The best way to get there is via a direct flight from FCO to one of the Sardinia airports. I flew into Calgary Airport.

no crowds

Sardinia is still a place that is gaining tourism each year. When I went, there were barely any tourists, and very few crowds. If you are looking for an island escape near Italy, this is your place. If you see the images below, there isn’t even anyone in the background on the beach!

rugged natural landscapes

I personally believe that Sardinia was as beautiful as the Greek Islands with its amazing beaches, crystal clear water, and natural rock landscapes on the coast. I couldn’t believe the types of geological landscapes and formations that were on the island, and you will awe at the natural beauty of it if you go!

WATER SPORTS

If you go to Sardinia, you MUST take a boat or sailing tour around the island. I did an AirBnb experience on a sailboat and it was my favorite day of the trip. They took us to swimming spots and we got to see the natural beauty of the coast. The Airbnb experience is linked here.

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT sardinia:

Wondering what time of the year is the best to visit Sardinia, Italy?

May + June: These months are the best time of year to visit Sardinia, as there are no crowds and the weather is perfect. The sea can be a bit chilly in May, but that didn’t stop me from jumping in the ocean! If you want warmer seas, July and August are also great months, but just know the island could get more crowded during those times.

TIPS + TRICKS when visiting sardinia:

1) Incorporate Sardinia in your Italy vacation if you can, it is a very short flight from Rome and is inexpensive to get to and stay in

2) Try the Sardinian food- some food here is very different from the traditional Italian food you will have on the mainland, so make sure you try some new dishes!

3) You have to see Sardinia from the water! So make sure to book that boat tour or sailing excursion
